Notes from the Terminator chronology
This story takes place around the time of the events in the
Terminator: Death Valley mini-series
(also written by Alan Grant), as revealed
in
"Death to the Future" Part 4, indicating that the "current day" scenes take place
in 2000. This is a timeline that includes the events of
The Terminator,
but not those of
Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The future scenes of this mini-series take place in 2032.

Didja Notice?
2032: On pages 4-5, Steel and Superman are set upon by human
cannibals in the ruins of Metropolis. Steel refers to them
as skells (a slang term originally used to represent a
homeless or derelict person, but has more recently taken on
the meaning of a criminal perpetrator). Steel remarks to
Superman that there is not a lot of food left and the
Resistance won't take in the cannibals, as they are not
trustworthy. This is the first instance of cannibals
appearing in the ruins of a city in the Terminator
universe.
2000: On page 7, panel 2, the bistro table Lois, Sarah, and
John are seated at is seen to be at least one table away
from the windows. But panel 4 and later shows the table is
right up against the windows!
Page 17 reveals that the restaurant is called
Megellan.
2000:
One of the Terminators left enabled at the end of
"Death to the Future" Part 1
is now seen to wear a police officer's uniform. Where did he
get a uniform large enough to fit him? It seem unlikely he
would run across an officer that large from whom he could
take the clothes. Did he break into a Metropolis PD supply
room?
2000: The Terminatrix who appears in this issue
and the next three superficially resembles the TX that appears in
Terminator 3: Rise
of the Machines three years later, but does not
have the polymimetic skin the TX has. She does, however,
have weapons built into her arm as does the later TX (see "Death
to the Future" Part 4).
2032: As the Resistance attacks one of the Skynet hubs,
Steel asks Superman how it feels to be back in action and
Supes responds, "Like I've been away far too long!" I
suppose it might make sense that Steel would ask this
considering Superman has been "missing" for the past 30+
years from his perspective. But for Superman, it's only been
a day, if that, since he saw action back in
"Death to the Future" Part 1.
2032: At the end of the issue, it appears that Skynet was
prepared for Superman to take part in the war against the
machines, as the Skynet bunker is lined with lead to prevent
him using his x-ray vision on it and the Sky 1 robot has been
built with a Kryptonite ray included. Presumably, this is
due to the information provided by Cyborg Superman in 2000.
Kryptonite, of course, is a type of metal or crystal made of
elements from the exploded planet Krypton and when a
Kryptonian is in its presence it has the effect of draining
their superpowers and, if the exposure is prolonged, can
kill them.
