Website hosting fees are becoming more expensive every year. Hosting fees used to be reasonable, but the market has changed to where the first year is fine, but after that fees start to soar, and changing hosts frequently is a tedious and time-consuming process. And, unfortunately, the site ads aren't covering it. If you can, please consider a small donation to PopApostle with the PayPal button below...any amount is appreciated. Thank you!

If donations are strong enough, I will eliminate the site ads.
Besides the ongoing studies already progressing, coming soon to PopApostle, Space: 1999!

"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Didja Notice?

On Cover A of this issue by Declan Shalvey, the Terminator skull has "Born to Kill" written on it, as well as a peace symbol painted on the side. These same two sentiments are painted on the Marine combat helmet used on the most common advertising poster for the 1987 Vietnam War movie Full Metal Jacket. In the movie itself, a Marine called Joker has the "Born to Kill" phrase painted on his helmet, while at the same time he wears a peace symbol pin on his uniform lapel; Joker says he may have intended it as commentary on the duality of man.

On page 7, the officer who leads the men who fires on the tank chasing Edward refers to the tank as an AVF. This stands for "armored fighting vehicle".

The officer tells Edward the embassy is being evacuated to the Seventh Fleet. This was the primary U.S. fleet in the area to which Americans and friendly Vietnamese were evacuated during the Fall of Saigon.

The officer tells Edward to hop on the next helo out to whatever ship will take them. "Helo" is a common slang term for "helicopter".

The helicopter Edward, Thu, and Joey escape in is a "Huey", a Bell UH-1H Iroquois.

On page 14, a lucky shot from his Colt allows Edward to put down the Terminator so that it loses power to its CPU and goes into sleep mode. "Colt" is a reference to firearms made by Colt's Manufacturing Company.

Edward radios out from the Huey to find a ship that can take them aboard. He tells them they are currently somewhere between Long Hai and Vung Tau. Long Hai is a town and Vung Tau was a city in South Vietnam that is now incorporated into Ho Chi Minh City.

Edward receives a response to his hail, from the U.S.S. Peoria. This was an actual Newport-class tank landing ship that took part in the Saigon evacuation. The ship has since been decommissioned in 1994.

Hernandez uses the nickname "Dug" for Edward from his last name "Duggan".

The snub nose jet fighter seen flying over Vietnam on page 21 appears to be a MiG-17, a Soviet fighter frequently used by the North Vietnamese during the war.
