Machines and resistance both make their move on Cyberdyne.
Didja Notice?
On the cover of this issue, notice that the gas tank on the
Terminator's motorcycle has the logo of this book's
publisher, Dark Horse, on it. Also the wheel guard of the
front wheel has a cursive "Chris Warner" (the artist) on it
in the fashion of the logo of Electra Glide models of
Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
The mechanic on page 1 is wearing what appears to be an
L.A. Dodgers cap.
On page 3, Dr. Astin runs out to an Oboy! sandwich shop,
which page 6 shows to be directly across the street from
Cyberdyne Systems. As far as I can tell, Oboy! is a
fictional establishment.
On page 5, Bart throws down the Metro section of the
Los
Angeles Times newspaper. The author of the Metro
front page article "Two Dead in Drive-By Shooting", Andrea
Ford, was an actual reporter for the Times when this story was written (though not in 1984 when this
story retroactively takes place, as discussed in the study
of "Tempest" Part 1). She
died in 1999. The article mentions LAPD Deputy Chief William
Rathburn, who was a real person in that position at the
time.
Notice on page 7 that I825.M is wearing an Oboy! uniform.
Possibly he ambushed an employee for the clothes while he
was staking out Cyberdyne across the street.
On page 7, I825.M impersonates an LAPD narcotics officer
named Lt. Pinto over the phone and claims he's issuing an
A.P.B. for Dr. Hollister. An A.P.B.
(All-Points Bulletin) is a broadcast to all law enforcement
agencies in the area to be on the lookout for a suspect,
person of interest, or missing person. But where did I825.M
get the name Lt. Pinto?
Also on page 7, a D.M.V. operator runs a request on Dr.
Hollister's vehicle and finds he is registered with a Datsun
300ZX. The
D.M.V. is the Department of Motor Vehicles, run by every
state in the U.S. (sometimes under a slightly different
name). The Datsun 300ZX was a real sports car made by Datsun
(now known as Nissan) from 1993-2000; the design of the car
as seen on page 8 is accurate for the model at the time.
On page 8,
I825.M follows Dr. Hollister on Walbrook Court. As far as I
can tell, this is a fictional street in Los Angeles.
On page 11, Dr. Astin is revealed to ride a motorcycle; it
looks like it could be a Honda model to me, but I could be
wrong. Mary is driving a
Jaguar
sedan, certainly stolen. |

On page 13, the Terminators visit the Lincoln Heights
neighborhood of Los Angeles. Lincoln
Heights is an actual neighborhood in the city.
On page 14, the police are ambushed by Terminators on Livesy
Boulevard. As far as I can tell, this is a fictional street
in L.A.
On page 16, panel 4, notice that as the Terminator yanks the
cop out of the police car through the window, he is pulling
with such strength he clips the cop's head on the top of the
door's window frame, breaking the edge and cracking the
cop's skull open.
On page 20, Dr. Hollister at first thinks the resistance
members who come to his house holding Dr. Astin hostage must
be KGB. The KGB was the national
security agency of the Soviet Union.
